April 2007
Dear Prayer Supporters,
“I will speak of the glorious honor of Thy majesty, and of Thy wondrous works.” (Psalm 145:5)
My heart is full as I write this month’s update! The Lord has truly done wondrous works for me this past month in answer to your prayers. In regards to financial support, He provided two more supporting churches (both of which are located near other supporting churches) and some individual supporters, which brings my current support level to 50%. Also, through some generous gifts, over 75% of my outfit & passage fund (moving expenses) has already been supplied. Beyond the material blessings, He has shown me more of His majesty and glory through His Word and fellowship with other believers.
“That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.” (Romans 15:32)
I have experienced that joy and refreshment that Paul spoke of in this verse. This past month I had the opportunity to return to my home church in Kansas, spend time with friends from my childhood, attend a missions conference at Northland Baptist Bible College (my alma mater), spend two Sundays with my former extension church in Wisconsin, as well as visit my sister Kelli in college and other relatives. Seeing and hearing what God has done in their lives made my cup overflow! At the Northland conference, I had many opportunities to talk with students who are interested in serving the Lord on the mission field. Several of them have asked me to pray for them and stay in contact with them as they prepare. It was also a special treat to visit with many faculty and staff members whom the Lord has greatly used in my life.
Chef Soufflé’s faux pas
My little puppet friend showed a disgraceful lack of tact when he made fun of American cheese in Wisconsin, the Cheese State! The next time we are in Wisconsin, I will be sure to remind him to be more considerate. J Last week after he and I visited the kids’ club at Faith Baptist Church in Pembine, WI, one of my Northland professors asked his daughter Jamie if she enjoyed meeting the Chef. When he asked, “Did you know Chef Soufflé has his own web page?” her eyes widened and she replied, “Do you mean he gets on the internet when Miss Kristi isn’t looking?” He certainly has a life of his own!
French Culture 101
On March 23rd I attended an evening seminar on French values and beliefs in Denver that was both fascinating and sobering. The French woman stated that French consider religion a taboo subject in conversations. She declared very matter-of-factly, “I don’t even know which of my family members believe in God. It’s a private thing; we never talk about it.” Also, it is considered offensive to strike up a conversation with strangers. I thought to myself, “What am I, crazy? This is an impossible place to share the Gospel!” Of course the Lord reminded me that with God, nothing is impossible; by His grace I must never be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, “for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.” (Romans 1:16). Please pray for the missionaries who are currently battling for the Gospel in this dark country.
