November 2007
As I waited in line to pay for a tank of gas, I heard the cashier breathlessly exclaiming to the customer in front of me, “It was really him! The voice of the Red Sox!” Evidently the Sox’s radio announcer had just left the premises. I was amused by the cashier’s excitement about meeting this celebrity. She was literally shaking as she told every single customer who came in about what had happened. “He let me try on his World Series ring! I can’t wait to brag to my boyfriend.” I was less amused when she took God’s name in vain several times. Finally I heeded the Spirit’s promptings and gave her a tract, trying to express to her that although meeting that famous person was exciting, meeting God Himself was far more important. She glanced down at the tract and spluttered, “But it’s the RED SOX!” as if nothing else could possibly compare. Although that girl was certainly not in any frame of mind to think about spiritual things, I prayed that later she would find that tract and realize that she needs to meet God. Sooner or later, she will see HIM face to face.
Laboring together in the Gospel
The Lord has continued to bless my bi-monthly Bible study at the assisted living home. The most faithful attendees are the three sharpest ladies at the home (as well as Hazel, who comes from her new home a few miles away). You will never guess what else the Lord has done! Alice, a new member of the kitchen staff, knows the Lord and has a burden for the residents. She heard about the Bible study and has been attending in order to help me. It is so nice to have another believer there to pray, to help answer questions, and to give me suggestions on how to be clearer in my teaching. What providential timing! In the last lesson on Jesus, the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25) we studied what the Bible says about death. The ladies have been asking
Special letters received:
The following letter includes a very entertaining drawing of the Chef and me by a child at a missions conference. If you look closely you will see the Chef’s description of church planting (literally planting a church in the ground and watering it).
(The following letter was one of several I received after teaching a special lecture on missions for a high school English class at a Christian school.)
“Dear Kristi Colas, Thanks for coming in and giving us a break from English class. Next time could you come to biology? . . . Hope you get to France soon. I’ll be praying for you. Thanks again. – Jonathan.”
(This final letter was an encouragement to me to treasure my opportunities to teach children each week.)
Dear Kristi, My name is Nicole. I’m 9 years old (10 in Dec.) and a fourth grader at Upper Bucks Christian School in Sellersville, PA. I met you at our church, and I have one of your prayer cards. I was wondering if you wanted me to pray for anything specific or maybe you have some praises. If you do just e-mail me. Your Christian Friend, Nicole.
“My prayer book is the same as the Bible.”
One morning as I jogged down
“As for God, His way is perfect…He is a buckler to those who trust in Him.” (Psalm 18:30)
My pastor, parents, mission board director, and I have decided that God’s perfect way for me is for me to wait several more months (probably until the first week of May) before beginning language school in Paris. Because the dollar is at an all-time low, I need to see the last 30% of my support come in before I can make definite plans for departure. Please pray that He will provide more deputation meetings in
Prayer requests for November
1) the salvation of the residents at the assisted living home
2) God’s provision for the rest of my support
3) God’s supernatural strength as I continue this challenging “pre-field” ministry
May the Lord bless you and cause the light of His countenance to shine upon you. Thank you for your faithful prayers and support.
For His glory,
Kristi Colas
