mission board

I am going to France under Open Door Baptist Missions. This mission board is a ministry of Morningside Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. I was accepted by the board of ODBM in November 2005, attended candidate school in July 2006, and began full-time deputation August 27, 2006. Missionaries need mission boards to provide assistance with financial and legal paperwork and accountability, and ODBM has been a tremendous help to me in these areas.
History:
ODBM was begun in September of 1990 at Morningside as a ministry to fund projects in Poland and other Eastern European countries. The changing political climate at that time was bringing about unparalleled opportunities to openly share the Gospel. Because of Morningside Baptist Church’s heartbeat for missions there was a desire to enter these newly opened doors. Numerous churches channeled funds through ODBM for the printing and distribution of Bibles, tracts, and other literature. In 1992 ODBM shifted from a “projects-only” agency to one that included missionary personnel. Since that time ODBM has been blessed with growth both in personnel and projects. As of October 2007 the ODBM family includes six single missionaries and 27 couples in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, the Middle East, South America, and the Caribbean.
Function:
ODBM holds a candidate seminar each summer to provide orientation for new missionary candidates. Help is given in establishing financial support estimates and acquiring needed visas. The mission provides crucial assistance in receipting gifts, paying monthly bills, transferring funds, providing monthly financial statements, answering inquiries from churches and individuals, as well as encouraging the missionaries through letters and personal contact.
Staff:
Dr. Tony Miller, chairman of ODBM, pastor of Morningside Baptist Church
Dr. John Burnette, director of ODBM, veteran missionary in Brazil
Bruce Rampey, administrative / financial assistant
